THE GREAT COMMISSION

Christ’s commission given to the apostles, is now replaced by the gospel given to Paul, the apostle born out of due time.

 
By following Paul, Christians have the ministry of reconciliation to the unsaved.

 
Christ’s commission: Matt 28:19-20

Apostles: Eph 2:20; Acts 1:21-22

Born out of due time: 1Cor 15:8

Following Paul: 1Cor 11:1

Ministry of reconciliation: 2Cor 5:17-20 (See Appendix A)

Contrary to popular Christian belief, we are not under the great commission as given by Christ to his apostles.

Christ’s commission has water baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Also, the apostles were given power to cast out devils, speak in new tongues, taking up serpents, drinking deadly things and laying hands on the sick to recover (Mark 16:15-18).

Unfortunately, the misapplication of Christ’s commission gives the wrong foundation, and indeed reinforces the misinterpretation, that water baptism is an ordinance for the church.

As the jailer said “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” and Paul replies “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 16:30-31). No water baptism needed.
